A laundry and dry cleaning shop in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, working with households in the neighbourhood and businesses nearby.
Most people don't want to spend an evening sorting washing. Most people have also had clothes come back from somewhere cheap looking worse than when they went in.
Nessa sits between those two things. We sort everything by hand, wash by fabric rather than by load, and check each item before it goes back in the bag. It's slower than a bulk wash and it isn't the cheapest option in Kileleshwa. What you get is clothes that last longer and come back ready to wear.

Why Nessa
Bulk washing is cheap because it skips the sorting
That's where clothes get ruined. Colours bleed into whites, wool comes back a size smaller, and a good shirt starts looking tired after a month of it. Sorting takes time, and time is exactly what the cheapest option cuts.
We separate everything by colour, by fabric and by how dirty it actually is before any of it goes near a machine. Temperature follows the label rather than the batch. Delicates are washed on their own even when there are only two of them. It's slower, and it costs a bit more than the place down the road. It's also why your clothes still look right a year from now.
Sorted by hand
Whites, colours, delicates and heavy items are washed separately. Nothing goes in together just to save a cycle.
